Port

On 15th February 2008 An Bord Pleanala decided that the proposed development (Ref:  PC0011) qualified as Strategic Infrastructure under the Planning and Development (Strategic Infrastructure) Act 2006.

The Board decided that the proposed development qualified under section 37A(2)(c)

  1. the development would have a significant effect on the area of more than one planning authority

The time period for the making of submissions by the public is to be at least 7 weeks from the date the application documentation becomes available for inspection (not from the date of publication of the public notices).

The Board also requires the prospective applicant to provide a stand alone website containing an exact replica of the application documentation. The website address is to be included in the public notices.

No application has been made to date

Biodiesel

A separate planning application was lodged with Louth County Council on 12/04/07 by Biodiesel Production Ireland Ltd to install a Biodiesel Production facility at Greenore Port. The site identified is less than 65 yards away from residents homes.

GRTT submitted a Letter of Observation to Louth County Council outlining our concerns. The Council granted permission subject to 10 conditions.

GRTT, Residents of Greenore, Rodney McDowell and others, and Greenore Golf Club all appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanala. The applicants were instructed by the Board that they were required to prepare an Environmental Impact Study. The applicants subsequently withdrew their application on 12/09/08.

A second almost identical application was lodged with Louth County Council by the same applicant on 19/11/08. Despite many Letters of Observation the Council granted permission for the development on 20/05/09 subject to 14 conditions.

GRTT, Philip J.Kelly and Others, Rodney McDowell and Others, Greenore Golf Club and An Taisce have all appealed this decision to An Bord Pleanala before the closing deadline on 15/06/09.

The case is to be decided by 15/10/09.

Wind Farm

A third planning application has been lodged, this time with the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, for a foreshore lease by Oriel Windfarm. Inspection of the EIS revealed that the applicants have identified two possible sites for the location of a construction site for the construction of 22m high “Concrete Casings” for the Wind Turbines. Both proposed sites are located at Greenore Port. GRTT has made a submission outlining our concerns.

No decision has been taken to date.
