Negative Impact on
Link to Greenore areaCooley Peninsula

  1. The proposal is disproportionate to the area (see Link 3 The Development) and if successful will ‘sandwich’ the village of Greenore between two ports blighting the lives of residents and effectively putting the community into terminal decline.

  2. Transport links are inadequate. The proposed development will result in a massive increase in HGV traffic on the R173/R175 (Greenore to Dundalk) road, a national scenic route therefore increasing the risk to all roadusers. There are no rail links present.

  3. The proposed development will endanger the Aquaculture industry on Carlingford Lough which in 2006 produced a natural crop to the value of over €10 million.

  1. The proposed development is to be located in an area/environment heavily protected both nationally and internationally.

  2. The proposed development will endanger the fast-growing Tourist industry on the Cooley Peninsula.

  3. From a community viewpoint;
    1. The proximity of the proposed development to homes (circa 45 yards) has heightened safety concerns for residents and their families.
    2. The proposed location of the development will result in a loss of access to the foreshore for residents, divers, fishing clubs, Coastguards, ornithologists, ramblers and others who use the existing amenity.
    3. As part of the proposed development the children of the village will lose their only communal play-area.
